Harris County Reintegration Court (RIC) Docket Program

Contract Attorneys

The Harris County District Courts Trying Criminal Cases will appoint attorneys for a six-month term to advise and represent individuals in the Reintegration Court (RIC) docket program. The RIC attorney will be paid a daily rate in accordance with the established fee schedule.  Such payment will not constitute a conflict with other court appearances.  Attorneys will be assigned to the RIC docket on a daily basis for one or more days each week.  For example, the attorney will be assigned each Monday for 6 months beginning October 3, 2016. 

Qualifications.  RIC attorneys must meet the qualifications:

  1. be licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas;

  2. have no pending disciplinary action by the State Bar of Texas;

  3. have practiced in the area of criminal law for at least four (4) years;

  4. have tried to verdict at least four (4) felony jury trials as lead counsel;

  5. exhibited proficiency and commitment to providing quality representation to criminal defendants;

  6. demonstrated professionalism and reliability when providing representation to criminal defendants

  7. average ten (10) hours of continuing legal education or other training related to criminal law;

  8. be on the current Harris County list of attorneys approved to accept felony appointments; and

  9. be willing to participate in training in the areas of addiction and other RIC related competencies.

Applications for term appointments: Attorneys shall submit their request for appointment for consideration of the assignment for the term beginning October 17, 2016.  The RIC team may conduct interviews of the qualified applicants.
