About the Judge

Judge Bill Burke attended Houston's Lamar High School and graduated from Rice University in 1965 with an Economics degree.  He graduated with honors from The University of Texas Law School in 1968.  He clerked for Judge John R. Brown on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Bill joined the firm of Baker Botts, LLP, in 1969 and became a partner in 1975.  His duties at that firm included serving as lead trial counsel for clients in disputes involving contracts, corporate governance and control, partnership dissolution, antitrust, lender liability, DTPA, bankruptcy, oil and gas, RICO, franchise disputes and defamation. 

From 1994 thru 2003, Bill practiced law, mediation and arbitration in small firms and as a sole practitioner.  He is an experienced mediator in personal injury; products liability; medical malpractice; environmental; contracts and commercial disputes of all types; employment discrimination; professional liability; and asbestosis matters.

Bill Burke has three grown children and is a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church.  He has been active in Prison Ministry for many years and leads prison support groups as well as Bible Study groups at the Hobby Unit, Huntsville Unit and the Central Unit and volunteers at the Star of Hope Transitional Living Center.

Governor Rick Perry appointed Judge Bill Burke to the 189th Civil District Court in October, 2003.
